I have the cutest little dog in the world and I absolutely adore her. She is so great. Lately she has been getting up SEVERAL times in the night and wanting to be let outside. Now see I don't have kids and Millie has been out of her puppy phase for some time now so I did not sign up for this. I have been really bothered. A little fact about me is that I love my sleep so when my dog has been waking me up four to five times a night to go outside... well lets just say I have been not so happy. I mean I am sure it is understandable (as annoying as it is) when you have to get up because of a child.... but a almost two year old DOG is unacceptable. And the thing that gets me the most is it is not even because she has to pee... it is to get her ball and just roam around the backyard. So if anyone has any great hints as to how to break this habit let me know. I am quite sick of the licks in the middle of the night on my face just to go out for a stroll at FOUR o'clock in the morning. Sorry had to vent!

That is so annoying! I feel the same way. I can understand one of my kids needing attention but if Bella ever wakes me up I get SO annoyed! By the way- I miss you so much! We should try to get together before I leave or next time I come down.
I am not an expert at kids or dogs, but with my cat, he knows exactly what he can get a way with. Our cat wakes me up all the time in the middle of the night just to get petted. He never bothers Nick because Nick never wakes up to pet him, but I always wake up. Kind of like a baby you are trying to sleep through the night, at first you just have to let them cry and not go sooth them, and eventually they will learn to soothe them selves.
i am sure millie knows if she licks/bugs you enough you will let her out. Maybe try not letting her out no matter what, and I bet she will stop. especially if you know she doesn't have to go to the bathroom. sorry for the long comment.....hopefully it will help. By the way, we missed seeing you last night....
Girl just open the door that conjoins our rooms and let her come lick my face :) I'll take her out during the 3 or 12 times i wake up in the night and keep her company during our restlessness. :)
AHH... I think Chels is into some weird things, and I'm a little scared. The last thing I need is to have Chels say to me, "Lick me face".
Okay... so this is going to sound gay, but it works. When we first got our puppy he would cry in the middle of the night and I would get up to take him out. I got really sick of it and asked a friend what to do. This is what she told me. Let the dog out to do it's business before you are going to go to bed. Then put it in it's crate and shut it in there until morning. They might cry and yelp but after a few days they will stop. And if they pee in the kennel, they will figure it out that they don't like it. I thought it sounded harsh but I couldn't get up anymore, so I did it and sure enough he doesn't pee anymore and doesn't even cry when it comes to bed time.
